InBrain new publication at MAGMA

We are pleased to announce that the manuscript titled "Contrast optimization in arterial spin labeling with multiple post-labeling delays for cerebrovascular assessment", whose authors are André M. Paschoal, Renata F. Leoni, Bernd U. Foerster, Antonio C. dos Santos, Octávio M. Pontes-Neto and Fernando F. Paiva was accepted for publication in MAGMA, the official journal of the European Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology!

This work is a result of a very fruitful collaboration among the InBrain Lab, the CIERMag and the Clinical Hospital of Ribeirao Preto.

In this paper, the authors proposed a modification to the Look-Locker readout for a multi-PLD ASL data by employing a flip angle sweep. The flip angles were calculated in order to keep the difference control - label constant over the PLDs. The idea in such modification was to increase the CNR at latter PLDs. Then, we assessed the benefits of the increased CNR for patients with increased blood transit time, which is the case for severe carotid stenosis patients. As a result, we showed how the proposed approach may facilitate the observation of e.g. collateral flow. It also provided a way to have an estimation of the arterial transit time without extra-processing.
